A Comprehensive List Of All The Major Airlines

We receive more and more messages asking what are the requirements to become a cabin crew for one of the major airlines in the Middle East and Europe.

Now, this is rightfully the first thing to know when thinking about a job in the aviation industry.  It is important to understand if you meet the minimum requirements of the airline(s) you wish to fly for or need to improve in certain areas.

Because we know how time-consuming it is to research these requirements in all the right sources, we compiled for you a list of all requirements of major airlines  that have the most active recruitment campaigns nowadays.

EMIRATES AIRLINES (Dubai – UAE)

  • At least 21 years old at the time of application (sometimes recruiters might let you attend an OD if you are less than 21 if you turn 21 before your joining date, if hired)
  • Minimum arm reach of 212 cm (without shoes for the ladies, on tip toes) and minimum height of 160 cm, which will enable you to reach emergency equipment on all aircraft types
  • Educated to at least high school level (Grade 12) with strong problem solving skills
  • Fluency in written and spoken English (additional languages are desirable)
  • No visible tattoos while in Emirates uniform (cosmetic and bandage covering is not permitted)
  • Medically fit to meet aircrew requirements
  • No dental braces
  • Clean criminal record
  • Positive attitude with the natural ability to provide excellent service in a team environment, dealing with people from many cultures
  • Strong cultural awareness and the ability to adapt to new environments and people
  • Flexibility and the motivation to manage a demanding work schedule
  • Qualities necessary to live up to the mission and values that Emirates holds in high regard – Professional, Empathetic, Progressive, Visionary, Cosmopolitan

*If you have a tattoo or any visible scar or birthmark, it should not be visible at all while wearing the Emirates Cabin Crew uniform.

ETIHAD AIRWAYS (Abu Dhabi – UAE)

  • Minimum age 21 years old
  • Fluent in English; verbal, written and comprehension; fluency in another language is an advantage
  • Confident in water and able to swim with the aid of a flotation device
  • Able to reach 210 cm without shoes
  • No tattoos that would be visible when wearing the Etihad uniform (bandages and cosmetic coverings are not permitted)
  • No body piercings that would be visible when wearing the Etihad uniform, other than one earring in the lower lobe of each ear for females only (bandages and cosmetic coverings are not permitted)
  • Educated to a minimum level of accredited secondary education (high school) or equivalent
  • Never convicted of a criminal offence
  • Excellent personal presentation, style and image
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Willing to comply with UAE and GCAA visa, medical and health screening requirements

*The minimum age to join Etihad as Cabin Crew is 21. However, if you are within 3 months of your 21st birthday you can still apply, but you will not be able to join Etihad until you have reached your 21st birthday.

QATAR AIRWAYS (Doha – Qatar)

  • Minimum 21 years old
  • Minimum arm reach of 212 cm on tip toes (for ladies)
  • Minimum high school education
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
  • Excellent health and fitness
  • NO tattoos
  • NO dental braces
  • Willingness to relocate to Doha, Qatar
  • Clean criminal record
  • Outgoing personality with good interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a multinational team

*Tattoos are an absolute “No Go” when applying for a cabin crew job with QR. If you think that you can hide a tattoo that is not visible, you have to be aware of the fact that once in Doha, you will have to pass a medical examination with a QR doctor. If the doctor will notice an undeclared tattoo, you could lose your job on the spot.

FLY DUBAI (Dubai – UAE)

  • Minimum 21 years old
  • Minimum height 158 cm (5Ft 2In) and weight in proportion to height
  • Educated to high school level
  • Fluent in English, both spoken and written (fluency in Arabic or another language would be an advantage)
  • Able to deal with passengers professionally in a customer facing and sales role
  • A valid passport allowing you to travel freely
  • Excellent team player with the ability to communicate with many nationalities
  • Proud to wear the uniform & wear it well
  • No visible tattoos
  • Able to swim minimum 25 meters and in deep water without the need of flotation aid/lifejacket
  • Motivated, reliable, hardworking
  • Passionate, friendly & fun!

SAUDI ARABIAN AIRLINES (Jeddah – Saudi Arabia)

  • Age between 22 and 30 years old at the time of application submission
  • Minimum high school graduate
  • With a minimum arm reach of 212 cm on tiptoes and according to Saudia’s standard height and weight chart
  • Medically fit
  • Good knowledge of English
  • No dental braces or visible tattoos while wearing the uniform
  • General knowledge of world affairs and geography, previous airlines or hospitality industry experience will be considered an advantage

OMAN AIR (Muscat – Oman)

  • Minimum 21 and maximum 30 years old at the date of application submission
  • Educated to at least high school level
  • Minimum height 160 cm and weight in proportion to height
  • Able to swim at least 50 m unaided
  • Fluent in English
  • Physically fit to meet regulatory requirements

AIR ARABIA (Sharjah – UAE)

  • Must be between 21 and 30 years old
  • Must be educated to a minimum level of accredited higher secondary education (high school) or equivalent
  • Fluent in English; fluency in another language is an advantage
  • Must meet the height and weight criteria (Male H: 165 cm, W: 68 to 82 kg, Female H: 160cm, W: 58 to 70 kg)
  • Ability to swim at least 30 m unaided in open water
  • Clear skin with no marks/tattoos that would be visible while wearing the uniform
  • Medically fit to meet the regulatory requirements
  • Cabin Crew/ nursing experience would be an asset

RYANAIR (Dublin – Ireland)

  • Over 18 years of age at the time of application
  • Holder of a valid European Union passport and with the right to work  in both the UK and Ireland
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken)
  • Between 5’2 (1.57m) and 6’2 (1.88m) tall with weight in proportion to height
  • Normal vision (contact lenses acceptable)
  • No visible tattoos
  • Clean criminal record
  • Physically fit with a good attendance record in your current position
  • Able to swim well
  • Prepared to live within one hour’s travelling time of any Ryanair base
  • Experienced in dealing with the public & comfortable in a selling role
  • Hard working, flexible & willing to operate on a shift roster
  • Ready to meet the challenge of dealing with people and demanding situations
  • Friendly and outgoing with a lively personality

EASY JET (Luton – United Kingdom)

  • Aged 18 or over
  • Height 5’3” (160 cm) to 6’3” (190 cm) without shoes (with weight in proportion to height)
  • Fit and able to pass a medical assessment and eye test
  • Able to swim 25 m without any assistance and tread water for at least a minute
  • Fluent in English and the language of the country you will be based in (spoken & written)
  • Able to live and work in the EU without restriction
  • Applicants for Geneva and Basel bases must have the right to work in Switzerland only
  • Holder of an EU passport that allows you to travel freely in EEA and to all our destinations
  • A confident communicator experienced in dealing with customers face-to-face
  • No visible tattoos or body piercings that can’t be covered discreetly
  • A good standard of education and a verifiable five-year activity history (clean criminal record)
  • Live within 90 min of the chosen home base and able to make this journey every day, at any time of the day

WIZZ AIR (Budapest – Hungary)

  • 18 years old at the time of application submission
  • High school diploma with passed graduation exam
  • 165 cm (ladies) and 175 cm (gents) tall with weight in proportion to height
  • Fluent in English
  • No tattoos in places visible while in uniform (forearms/face/neck)
  • Able to swim unaided
  • Excellent health
  • Customer service experience and multiple language proficiency will be an advantage

SMILE AIR (Accra – Ghana)

  • You must be aged 18 but less than 27 years old
  • Between 5’2” (158 cm) and 6’2” (188 cm) tall and weight in proportion to height
  • Physically fit
  • Fluent in spoken and written English, additional languages are a bonus
  • In possession of at least 6 months face-to-face customer service experience
  • Able to swim at least 25 m unaided
  • In possession of the right to work and travel freely throughout the ECOWAS region
  • In possession of an ECOWAS driving licence
  • No visible tattoos
  • Candidates must have finished secondary school and be in possession of a graduation certificate

You have to remember that the competition in the industry is extremely high and it isn’t showing any sign of lowering anytime soon.

If you don’t meet the requirements but really want to follow this profession, dedicate all your effort and resources to becoming the perfect candidate.

Any shortcoming on your side can mean that other candidates get a better chance than you at getting the job.
